  • Experience shows that getting strong opponents to change their mind is almost always a lost cause. Actually, research has shown that when you attack people they tend to cling even further to their views, out of defense reaction.

    So attacking them might actually add fuel to their fire and give them more publicity.

    Unless you can leverage immense moral support for your cause, opponents are normally not moveable. As we will see later in lesson 5 and 6, attacking your opponents might nevertheless be effective to win over moveable middle audiences or help mobilise your supporters, as is clear in this video.
