This example is interesting because there is both an external conflict (between the bad men and the Trans woman) and an internal conflict, within the woman who at first rejects the Trans woman. You can feel the woman is conflicted from the beginning, as her rejection comes with some sort of remorse (she opens the door again after having slammed it). The interesting thing in the plot is that the external conflict serves to resolve the internal one. A classic but effective element of storytelling.

If there is no conflict, there is no story. A story is almost inevitably an account of how a hero resolves a conflict, external (enemies) or internal (doubt, conflicting feelings or interests), or both.
